10-Minute Layup Drills
Goal: finish at the rim from both sides with proper footwork.
The basic rule
- Right side = right hand, jump off left foot
- Left side = left hand, jump off right foot
1) Walking layups (3 min)
- Start under the basket. Walk through the footwork: step-step-jump-lay it in. 5 reps each side.
2) Dribble layups (4 min)
- Start at the 3-point line. Dribble in, gather, two steps, lay it in. 5 reps each side.
3) Speed layups (3 min)
- Full speed from half court (or end of driveway). Focus on controlling the gather. 4 reps each side.
The most common mistake: jumping off the wrong foot. Slow it down until the footwork is automatic.
